The library at the ICAR-Sugarcane Breeding Institute (SBI) in Coimbatore serves as the information backbone for sugarcane research and development, providing essential scientific literature and resources to students, researchers, and development workers across India.
Services and Facilities:
Library Automation: The library utilizes KOHA, an open-source library software, to automate its services, making access to resources more efficient.
Information and Reference Services: Scientists and users have access to online journals and e-books through the ICAR-Consortium for e-Resources in Agriculture (CeRA) and J-Gate.
Document Delivery: The library provides CD-ROM database search, retrieval, photocopying, and scanning services.
Exchange Services: It maintains exchange relationships and resource-sharing initiatives with leading national and international research institutes and development organizations. This includes sending ICAR-SBI Annual Reports and newsletters to various institutions, universities, state cane departments, sugar mill officers, jaggery entrepreneurs, and sugarcane farmers
Reading Facilities: The library offers a conducive environment for study and research.
Wi-Fi Connectivity: Users can access free Wi-Fi within the library premises
